London-born and bred, Winehouse held a once-in-a-generation voice and topped the charts with songs such as Rehab, Tears Dry on their Own, Back to Black and Valerie. Her second album, Back to Black, went onto become one of the best-selling albums in UK history. Four years after her death from alcohol poisoning, Asif Kapadia directed a documentary that detailed Amy’s struggles with substance abuse and her rise to fame titled Amy. After its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival it went on to win an impressive 30 awards including the BAFTA and Academy Award for Best Documentary and a Grammy for Best Music Film. The following year, Amy was nominated for Best Female Artist at the BRITs, the first of many accolades awarded to her after her death.

In 2019, Jordan Hill directed a TV movie that detailed the final hours of Amy’s life and explored her public battle with addiction. The Last 24 Hours: Amy Winehouse is one of the more in-depth explorations into the tragic events that led to her shocking death.
Since then, there’s been additional documentaries that explore different angles of the struggles that came with Amy’s sky-rocket to fame in Amy Winehouse: The Price of Fame, the BBC documentary Reclaiming Amy with rare family archive footage, and Fatal Addiction: Amy Winehouse.
