Soap Opera Digest Is Ending Its Weekly Print Edition

(10/27/23) The weekly print edition of Soap Opera Digest — the newsstand chronicler of daytime drama — is ending after nearly five decades.

Staffers were informed of the decision Friday, according to sources. A spokesperson for a360Media, the company that owns the brand, confirmed that the weekly edition is being discontinued. The company plans to continue publishing special print issues of Soap Opera Digest four times per year.

“Soap Opera Digest, like many other brands, is adjusting its print frequency and shifting more resources to digital to better accommodate its audience,” the a360Media rep said in a statement to Variety.

Soap Opera Digest was first launched in 1975. Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp bought the publication in 1989 for $70 million before selling it two years later, per the New York Times, and it has had a succession of different owners ever since.

In its heyday, the magazine had a circulation of 1.5 million in 1991, according to the Times. But the reach of its print edition, as with many magazines, has sharply fallen off in the decades since.

According to its website, Soap Opera Digest is “the leading magazine reporting on the soap opera industry for over 40 years,” serving up “behind-the-scenes scoops and breaking news to passionate soap fans every week.” The mag also has included special editorial features on beauty, fashion, parenting, and health and fitness.

Soap Opera Digest has been available in print and digital subscription plans, priced at $45.97 for six months (26 issues at $1.77 apiece) or $69.97 for one year (52 issues at $1.34 apiece).

A360media houses a media portfolio of celebrity, entertainment and women’s lifestyle brands including Us Weekly, Star, InTouch and Life & Style. The company claims that it is the largest print publisher in the U.S., both in retail sales and units sold, with its titles representing about one-third of all magazines sold at retail.

A360media was formerly known as American Media Inc., which had been the owner of the National Enquirer (involved in the “catch and kill” scandal involving Donald Trump and which Jeff Bezos accused of an extortion attempt). In 2020, AMI was acquired by Atlanta-based logistics firm accelerate360, which sold off the National Enquirer, Globe and National Examiner tabloids earlier this year.

Thorsten Kaye and John McCook Livestream Conversation 10/11/23

(10/7/23) (Watch Here) The Bold and the Beautiful's Thorsten Kaye (Ridge Forrester) and John McCook (Eric Forrester) chat live with Michael Fairman on Wednesday night October 11th beginning at 8PM ET/5PM PT.

In story, B&B viewers have seen that Eric's health has taken a turn for the worse, just as he is set to do battle with his son, Ridge, as to who can design the best fashion line as they head towards their Forrester Creations fashion show.

Eric is determined that nothing will stop him from proving that this will be his 'final' and best line, ever. Ridge is determined to show why he is at the top of his game.

Daytime Emmy-winner John McCook has been with the CBS daytime drama series since its beginnings in 1987. He previously appeared on The Young and the Restless as Lance Prentiss. Thorsten Kaye joined the series in 2013, having previously appeared on All My Children, One Life to Live and Port Charles.

John J. York on Entertainment Tonight

(10/1/23) ‘General Hospital’s John J. York Gives Update on His Battle With 2 Rare Forms of Cancer: Video.

General Hospital’s John J. York Gives Tearful, Hopeful Update on His Cancer Journey

(9/22/23) (Video) General Hospital star John J. York offered a positive update Friday regarding his recently announced cancer diagnosis.

Earlier in September, York shared on social media that he’d been diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome and smoldering multiple myeloma, which are blood and bone marrow disorders. “Over the past many months, I’ve had three bone marrow biopsies, many chemo treatments — I have another one coming up in a couple of weeks — and I’m closing in on a blood stem cell transplant,” he said at the time.

In a Good Morning America interview Friday, York announced some positive news. “I believe they’ve found a match, a perfect match” for the transplant, he said. “So we’re going to start testing, and doing all that kind of stuff, coming up here in about a week.” He added that the procedure would then happen — “fingers crossed” — in November.

York said he’s been working with BeTheMatch.org, through which he found a donor after his family members were not perfect matches. He nearly started crying when asked what he would say to the donor slated to help him.

“Thank you for saving my life, for letting me spend more time with my wife and my daughter and son-in-law, my grandchildren,” York said, tearing up. “For seeing this beautiful blue sky and all the beautiful trees around me. That’s what I would say.”

York’s health issues have caused him to take a temporary break from playing Mac Scorpio on General Hospital, a role he’s inhabited since 1991.

John J. York (Mac, General Hospital)

'General Hospital' Star John J. York Approaches Cancer Diagnosis with Positive Attitude

(9/20/23) (people.com) General Hospital star John J. York isn’t letting a cancer diagnosis get him down by any means.

The soap opera veteran, 64, who has played Mac Scorpio on the ABC daytime drama for 22 years, announced last week that he had been diagnosed with two forms of cancer — myelodysplastic syndromes, or MDS, and multiple smoldering myeloma — two blood and bone marrow disorders. But because he has battled ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease since he was 17, his feeling is, “It's just another thing that I gotta now take care of.”

“I went through life with colonoscopies, medicines, the whole thing, and always had to be under doctor's care,” he tells PEOPLE, adding with great positivity, “and living life. Everything's good.”

York had periodic checkups on those pre-existing conditions, and each time his doctor told him he had a spot that just doesn't want to heal. As a result, he was put on mild chemo in a pill form. However, in October 2022, the hematologist — a doctor specializing in blood conditions — suggested a bone marrow biopsy. Then, on Dec. 9, 2022, York recalls with clarity, the doctor walked into his office with a big stack of papers, dropping them on his desk and saying, “Is your wife available for a conference call?”

“I thought, ‘Well, that can’t be good,” York laughs.

They got York’s wife of 37 years, Vicki, on the phone. “She was a mess,” York remembers. “[The doctor] was explaining all these different things and cells and all different levels and words that had, you know, 25 letters in them. And I didn't understand. And Vicki finally came out and said, ‘Does John have cancer?’ And he said, ‘Yes.’ And I'm sitting there, I'm really just like a fly on the wall, listening to him talk to Vicki because she was the one asking all the questions.” At the end of his doctor’s conversation with Vicki, York’s one question was simple: “Why do I feel so good?”

“I feel great,” York says. “I mean, I walk three miles a day and I'm in great shape. And my diet is great and my appetite is great. [The doctor] said that was because we got it early.”

Although chemo treatment was set to begin through UCLA and the doctor that made the diagnosis, York and Vicki were in the process of moving to Tennessee, where their daughter Skyler lives with her family. He didn’t want to tell Skyler of the diagnosis over the phone and instead wanted to wait until the move was complete. But after a couple of sleepless nights, York asked Vicki to call their daughter with the news. Skyler’s husband suggested that rather than York flying back and forth from Tennessee to LA for treatments, he do everything at the nearby Vanderbilt and its “amazing university and cancer center.”

The IV chemo treatment was a piece of cake for York. “You check in and you sit and you wait. It's like waiting for a table at a restaurant almost. You know what I mean?” he laughs. “It's like about a 15-20 minute infusion for seven days in a row, and then 28 days after the first day of that infusion cycle. I had one in March, April, May, June, July, August, and now I'm gonna have another one coming up in September.”

York adds, “It is what it's, you know what I mean? And then everybody's gotta get their treatment. And then you go home, go about your life and you play with the kids. And here we are.”

York has been moved up on the donor priority list and thinks they’re close to finding him a bone marrow donor. “I'm excited about that,” he says. "Many of my family members tested. I believe that the age range is like 18 to 40 to join the registry at bethematch.org/matchformac.”

As far as General Hospital goes, he’s been flying back and forth from Tennessee to LA for filming, since his doctor hasn't put any travel restrictions on him. When the transplant starts, the doctor told him he has to “stay in semi-isolation” at home. Luckily, he lives within 30 minutes of the hospital in case there is a problem, like if his temperature spikes, which is “a very serious situation.”

“My whole philosophy is one day at a time; whatever they need me to do,” York tells PEOPLE. “Well, if I'm staying in a hospital, I'll stay in a hospital. If I can go home, I'll go home, where we have a place where I can be by myself, you know, away from the kids.”

"It goes without saying that Vicki is taking on the caretaker role. She's that now, and she's been that way forever,” York laughs. She has been his pillar of strength and “the guiding force.”

“The immediate reaction was fear, probably,” York says of Vicki’s state of mind upon first hearing her husband had “the c-word.”

“Yeah, she's scared, but believe it or not, I really kinda wasn't because I feel great. Personally, I feel like it's in God's hands. God's will be done. It's gonna work out okay, one way or another. I'm either gonna survive or I'm not. And life goes on and things are gonna be okay for everybody... Let's just go one day at a time.”t.

General Hospital Star John J. York Reveals the Heartbreaking Reason for His Hiatus

(9/13/23) (Match for Mac) General Hospital veteran John J. York announced earlier this month that he’d be taking a hiatus from the ABC daytime soap — and now we know why.

York revealed that he’s dealing with some serious health issues in a video he shared on social media on Wednesday: “I was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, or MDS, and [smoldering multiple] myeloma, two blood and bone marrow disorders. Over the past many months, I’ve had three bone marrow biopsies, many chemo treatments — I have another one coming up in a couple of weeks — and I’m closing in on a blood stem cell transplant.”

York asked fans to consider seeing if they could possibly be a match to be a donor and also thanked them “for all the support over the years,” adding: “This isn’t goodbye. This is just ‘So long!'” He did note that he’ll “have to take a break for at least three, maybe four months” from GH, but he vowed: “I’ll be back.”

York plays Mac Scorpio on General Hospital, a role he’s played since 1991. He also reprised the role on Port Charles and All My Children. His other TV credits include Castle and Veronica Mars.

Tyler Perry Sets Meagan Good, Debbi Morgan & Five Others To Star In Prime Video Pic ‘Divorce In The Black’

(6/29/23) Just a day after announcing Black, White, & Blue as his first film under a four-picture deal with Amazon inked back in November, Tyler Perry has named Divorce in the Black as his second. The film follows Ava, a young bank professional who is devastated when her husband Dallas abandons a marriage she is determined to fight for. But then fate intervenes, revealing Dallas’ wicked deeds that have trashed their marriage, and once upon a time sabotaged Ava’s destiny to be loved by her true soulmate. Deadline understands that Hardrict will be playing Dallas, though no further character details have been disclosed.

In addition to Perry via Tyler Perry Studios, producers include Tyler Perry Studios’ Angi Bones and Will Areu, as well as Dianne Ashford.

He appears in the Sundance 2023 films To Live and Die and Live and Young. Wild. Free. and also boasts big-screen credits like City of Lies, All Eyes on Me, American Sniper and Warm Bodies.

Anderson played Rocky, the father of a young Dwayne Johnson, on NBC’s Young Rock, appearing prior to that on MacGruber and other series, as well as in films like Harriet.

Polidore has also been seen on All American: Homecoming, as well as on series like Snowfall, Black Lightning and Wicked City.

Daytime Emmys To Honor Susan Lucci & Maury Povich With Lifetime Achievement Awards

(6/16/23) Susan Lucci and Maury Povich will be honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards at the 50th Annual Daytime Emmys.

The Emmys were supposed to be held today on CBS. But the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in May announced it was postponing them, as well as the June 17 Creative Arts & Lifestyle ceremony, because of the WGA strike.

Lucci and Povich will be celebrated in person once the awards are rescheduled.

“I am truly humbled to receive this esteemed award from the Academy,” Lucci said in a statement. “Throughout my career, I have been incredibly fortunate to work alongside exceptional talents and embraced by my fans that have been with me every step of the way. This honor is not just a reflection of my journey, but a testament to the enduring power of storytelling and the profound connection we are so lucky to forge with audiences all over the world through television.”

“I’m just blown away by this honor from the Academy,” Povich said in a statement. “I have always had great respect for its work as I served on the National Board and was President of the New York Chapter. I guess if you hang around long enough, some good things happen. It’s been a 60+ year ride for me in this business, so I feel extremely blessed with this acknowledgment.”

Lucci starred as Erica Kane for over 40 years on All My Children. In May 1999, on her 19th nomination, she won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Povich hosted the first-run syndicated show Maury from 1998 to 2022.

NATAS also announced the 2023 Gold and Silver Circle Honorees. Inductees are professionals who have performed distinguished service within the television industry, setting standards for achievement, mentoring, leadership and professional accolades for 50 or 25 years respectively. This year’s class is:

Wendy Riche, Producer, Daytime Drama
Al Schwartz, Producer, Specials

Kin Shriner Announces Scott Has Been Written Out of GENERAL HOSPITAL

(5/18/23) (soapsindepth.com) The soap world was thrown into a bit of a tizzy the evening of May 16 when GENERAL HOSPITAL star Kin Shriner (Scott) posted a tweet that seemed to indicate he was leaving the soap!

“I just found out Scotty was written out,” he wrote. “I thank you GH fans for decades of supporting me!”

While some fans wondered if the actor’s Twitter account had been hacked, others noted that he has made these kinds of statements before. In fact, back in December 2021, Shriner tweeted that “Scotty’s run is done, so heading to Florida to ride Vespa around the tropics!” And as we all know, Scott eventually returned to our screens.

The character of Scotty Baldwin first appeared back in the mid-‘60s played by child actor Johnny Whitaker and after a series of young actors was aged to an adult in 1977 when Shriner took over the role. He has come and gone numerous times from GH over the decades, so this could just be another visit to the backburner until Scott’s story heats back up again.

Recently, Scott found himself in a relationship with Liesl Obrecht that has become a fan favorite. Unfortunately, his defending Liz in court upset Obrecht and she has thus far found it difficult to forgive him. While it would seem more in character for Scott to continue trying to win Obrecht back, perhaps he’s going to go lick his wounds and wait for her to come around on her own.

Mark has received 10 Daytime Emmy Awards for his work on General Hospital.

He is also a seven-time recipient of the Casting Society of America's Artios Award. Mark has served on the Board of Governors for the Television Academy and is a former Vice President of the Casting Society of America.

Judy Farrell Dies: Nurse Able On ‘M*A*S*H’ Was 84

(4/4/23) Judy Farrell, known for her role as Nurse Able in “MASH,” has died. She was 84.

Farrell’s son, Michael Farrell, confirmed to The Times that she died Sunday morning in a hospital nine days after suffering a stroke.

Loretta Swit, who acted alongside Farrell on “MASH,” told Entertainment Weekly: “Judy was a most beautiful woman — inside and out. We grew up together. She was family. This has been a painful loss, but we will always have the beauty of her memory. Rest in peace, Nurse Able.”

Farrell portrayed Nurse Able on eight episodes of the comedy-drama war television series that followed doctors and support staff at the fictional 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War.

The New Yorker wrote that the series was “one of the highest-rated television series of all time ... and considered by many to be the gold standard for quality programming in its day. The show was embraced by audiences and critics alike.” The acclaimed series aired from 1972 to 1983.

Farrell also appeared in other popular TV shows, including “Fame,” “Quincy M.E.,” and “The Partridge Family.” From 1998 to 2003, she wrote for the “General Hospital” spinoff “Port Charles.” Most recently, Farrell played Diane Harris in the 2006 romantic comedy “Long-Term Relationship.”

Filmmaker Rob Williams shared a tribute post to social media saying: “Very sad to hear about the death of Judy Farrell. Most people know her from her role as Nurse Able on MASH, but many of you will remember her wonderful performance in my first film, Long-Term Relationship.

“I developed that script in the Twin Bridges Screenwriting Salon, which was run by Judy and her husband Joe Bratcher (who also played her husband in LTR),” he continued. “And I was honored that they agreed to be in the movie. Judy was always kind and funny, and she was very supportive. She will be missed by all of us.”

Farrell was born in Quapaw, Okla., on May 11, 1938. She’d been acting since 1969, beginning when she was featured on two episodes of “Judd, for the Defense” and one episode of “Get Smart.” She continued working in television, landing an episode here and there for the next decade before she scored her most visible role as Nurse Able in 1976.

She also worked with her former husband during her time on “MASH.” She and co-star Mike Farrell, who played Capt. B.J. Hunnicutt, were married from 1963 to 1983. They share two children together: Michael and Erin Farrell.

After the Farrells parted ways, she married actor and producer Joe Bratcher in 1985. She is survived by Bratcher and her two children.w

Rodney Van Johnson Cast on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL

(1/7/23) (soapsindepth.com) Sheila is determined to go free, and she’s going to have some professional help when Rodney Van Johnson joins THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL as her attorney, making his debut on Monday, Jan. 9!

“I was offered to come play in their sandbox,” he told Soap Opera Digest in their new issue, “which is just amazing!”

Van Johnson is probably most recognizable to soap fans for playing T.C. Russell on NBC sudser PASSIONS, although he also played Sebastian Dupre on ABC’s PORT CHARLES and Trey Stark on CBS’s THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, so he’s hit every network!

'General Hospital' Kelly Monaco Home Torched in Massive Fire Caused By Cigarette

(5/19/22) "General Hospital" star Kelly Monaco had some bad luck on Friday the 13th ... her home went up in flames, thanks to a cigarette that ignited the blaze.

Kelly tells TMZ ... she woke up late Friday morning to a fire raging on her front yard, with flames licking her windows. The flames quickly engulfed portions of the house.

Kelly was able to escape ... but the house did not fare well. The blaze caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages to her Sherman Oaks home. It won't be livable for quite a while.

Kelly says she turned her security footage over to law enforcement and we're told arson investigators were able to determine the fire was started by someone tossing a lit cigarette butt on the empty lot next to her home. The investigators believe the fire was not started intentionally.

Talk about bad luck on Friday the 13th.

Kelly, who has appeared on soap operas for 22 years and counting, says she's been a part of some pretty wild stories on set ... but none of the scripts compare to living through a massive fire at her home.

She's got a message now that she's come face-to-face with flames ... "Something as little as a cigarette butt can cause casualties and devastation."

True that.

Hot on their trail, Britt forms a posse with a gunslinging deputy and a stoic Pawnee tracker. Peter Facinelli, Cody Jones, Callder Griffith, Tucson Vernon Walker, Rick Moffatt, Ardeshir Radpour, Kevin McNiven, Peter Sherayko, Eric Pickett, and Ryder Kozisek also star in the film, scripted by Jerry Robbins.

Feifer produced the film, with Barry Brooker, Alan B. Bursteen, Dawn Bursteen and Stan Wertlieb serving as exec producers.

“Jay was not just an actor in many of my films, he was a great friend and valued collaborator,” the director said in a statement to Deadline. “Even more, he was a true gentleman on set and always made all of the crew and cast feel special with his kind hearted and humble way. We’ve all been overwhelmed by the incredible outpouring of love and support since his unexpected passing. Jay told me just a week before he passed that he felt that his part as Britt McMasters was his best performance yet … and I wholeheartedly agree. I so look forward to sharing our movie with audiences and, especially, his fans.”

‘Port Charles' Actor Jay Pickett Dies While Shooting Movie Scene

(8/1/21) Jay Pickett, known for his work in soap operas General Hospital and Port Charles, died of unknown causes on Friday at the age of 60. Pickett was on location in Idaho shooting the film Treasure Valley when he died while on a horse, according to actor and friend Jim Heffel.

“Yesterday I lost a good friend and the world lost a great person. Jay Pickett decided to ride off into the Heavens. Jay died sitting on a horse ready to rope a steer in the movie Treasure Valley in Idaho. The way of a true cowboy,’ Heffel said of Pickett, both of who co-produced the film alongside Travis Mills.

Mills in a post of his own shared to the film’s official Facebook page shared a tribute to Pickett. “Many of you have already heard about the tragedy that happened two days ago,” he wrote on Sunday. “Jay Pickett, our leading man, writer, producer, and creator of this movie passed away suddenly while we were on location preparing to film a scene. There is no official explanation for the cause of his death but it appears to have been a heart attack. Everyone present tried as hard as they could to keep him alive. Our hearts are broken and we grieve for his family who are so devastated by this shocking tragedy.”

Pickett was born in Spokane, Washington in 1961 and grew up in Caldwell, Idaho. By his college years, he was focused on becoming an actor; he received his BA degree in acting from Boise State University and his MFA in acting from UCLA with a focus in theater at both institutions.

He made appearances throughout the years in many popular TV shows including China Beach, Dragnet, Mr. Belvedere, Perry Mason, and Days of Our Lives before securing a gig on the ABC soap Port Charles as Frank Scanlon in 1997. Everyone that knew him loved him. I love you, Jay. Keep smiling my friend. All my love to his family, who truly became our family as well. You will be forever missed.”

In addition to his role as Frank on PORT CHARLES, Pickett also temporarily filled in for Ted King as Lorenzo Alcazar on GH and later returned to GH again in 2006-07 in the recurring role of Detective David Harper. ‘Fantasy Island’ Adds guest stars Eric Winter, Debbi Morgan & Leslie Jordan

(7/27/21) The guest register on Fantasy Island is heating up and the place hasn’t even opened to the public yet!

Fox’s follow-up to the classic ABC anthology doesn’t premiere until next month, but we’ve already started getting wind of who has lined up to have their wishes granted on the magical dramedy starring Roselyn Sánchez as Elena Roarke — grand-niece of Ricardo Montalban’s Mr. Roarke. And now, TV Insider can exclusively confirm three more tourists heading for the island.

Call Me Kat‘s Leslie Jordan, a longtime equal-rights advocate who blew up on Instagram in 2020 with his hilarious lockdown posts, will drop in on the eighth episode as the ghost of a shady art dealer named Jasper that gets 24 hours back on Earth to reconnect with the protégé he may have given misguided advice to.

All My Children vet Debbi Morgan (Power and Fox’s upcoming People Like Us) shows up in episode four as Eileen, “a delightful free spirit with elegance, charm and the confidence of someone who has always been the most beautiful and entertaining person in the room.” Unfortunately, Eileen also has a strained relationship with her daughter, which she hopes to mend while vacationing in paradise.

And finally, Roselyn Sánchez’s real-life husband, Eric Winter of The Rookie, is due to have us swooning in episode six as Brian, an athletic and competitive survivalist who dares the island to put him through the “ultimate mental and physical challenge.” Fans of the couple will be aware that Winter was in Puerto Rico with the family while Roselyn began filming, so ya had to know this one was coming. Sánchez even told TV Guide Magazine that she was going to make sure he showed up, which is proof positive that she really is a boss!

The three actors join a number of already-announced guest stars on the reboot. Fantasy Island will be welcoming Prodigal Son‘s Bellamy Young and Bold and the Beautiful‘s Kiara Barnes in the premiere, followed by Dave and Odette Annable (he of Yellowstone, she of Walker) and the give-it-to-us-now reunion of Melrose Place alums Daphne Zuniga, Laura Leighton, and Josie Bissett.

Morgan To Recur on 'Our Kind of People'

(6/30/21) Debbi Morgan (Power, All My Children) will recur in Fox’s upcoming fall drama Our Kind of People as the aunt of Yaya DaCosta’s character.

Stuart Damon, Longtime Actor on ‘General Hospital,’ Dies at 84

(6/29/21) (hollywoodreporter.com) Stuart Damon, the onetime Broadway singer who portrayed Dr. Alan Quartermaine on the ABC soap opera General Hospital and its Port Charles spinoff for more than three decades, has died. He was 84.

Damon had been struggling with renal failure, KABC reporter George Pennacchio said in a Facebook post about Damon’s death, quoting Damon’s son, Christopher, who said of the elder Damon’s time on the soap, “It was his favorite place to be. He loved playing Alan and was always so appreciative of that role and that job. It was his passion.”

After beginning his career on Broadway, the tall, dark-haired Damon shot to prominence when he portrayed the prince opposite Lesley Ann Warren in a lavish 1965 CBS musical production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella.

He then worked for a dozen or so years in London, where he starred as a secret agent on the 1968-69 ITV series The Champions, appeared on shows including The Saint, Steptoe and Son and The New Avengers and toplined the West End musicals Charlie Girl, a long-running hit, and Man of Magic, as Harry Houdini.

Damon joined General Hospital in May 1977 when Alan Quartermaine, a member of a rich, dysfunctional family, arrived in Port Charles to help Dr. Steve Hardy (John Beradino) raise funds for a new hospital wing. He sticks around and weds Dr. Monica Webber (Leslie Charleson) in 1978, and their marriage is tested by affairs and murder attempts over the years.

“He’s really one of the most interesting characters around,” Damon said in a 2010 interview. “He’s loving one day, but he’s also a failed murderer who wound up in a hospital on two occasions. … I’ve just played some scenes with Monica in which you couldn’t be sure whether I’d kill her or screw her.”

Following six Daytime Emmy nominations without a win, Damon finally took home the prize on his last attempt in 1999 when Alan got addicted to painkillers while attempting to recover from career-threatening hand surgery. (The actor also spent 1997-2001 on the GH spinoff Port Charles.)

Damon was fired from GH in late 2006 — Alan would die of a heart attack after being taken hostage in a hotel — but he occasionally returned as ghostly apparitions or in flashback sequences through 2013. Meanwhile, he worked on two other soaps, CBS’ As the World Turns and NBC’s Days of Our Lives.

The son of Russian immigrants, Stuart Michael Zonis was born in Brooklyn on Feb. 5, 1937. He graduated in 1958 from Brandeis University, where his classmates included Louise Lasser and future advice columnist Margo Howard.

He sang on Broadway in 1959 in the ensemble of First Impressions, a musical comedy version of Pride and Prejudice that was directed by Abe Burrows, then spent more than a year in two roles in the original Broadway production of Irma la Douce.

Damon appeared in a 1963 Obie-winning off-Broadway revival of The Boys From Syracuse, which featured music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Lorenz Hart, then was back on Broadway in 1965 in a featured part in Do I Hear a Waltz?, from Rodgers and Stephen Sondheim. (He also was heard on that cast album and others as well.)

On The Champions, Damon played spy/pilot Craig Stirling opposite British actors Alexandra Bastedo and William Gaunt. Their characters worked at a Geneva-based law enforcement organization known as Nemesis and used the exceptional powers given to them by an advanced Tibetan civilization to save the world.

Damon later starred for two seasons (1976-77) on the World War II-set ITV comedy Yanks Go Home before returning to the U.S. to work on a soap opera. “I was thinking General Hospital might be a 13-week gig, and 31 years later, I was still there,” he said.

“I tried to make [Alan] as complete as possible,” he added. “I wanted to make sure that this character had an edge, that he wasn’t Mr. Good Guy or Mr. Bad Guy — he wasn’t black or white, he was gray. I wanted to make him someone you didn’t mess with.”

Damon also showed up on other TV shows including Naked City, Fantasy Island, Hotel and Diagnosis Murder and in the 1983 feature Star 80, directed by Bob Fosse.

Survivors include his wife, British-born actress, singer and dancer Deirdre Ottewill, whom he married in 1961, and their children, Jennifer and Christopher.

Stuart Damon Dies: ‘General Hospital’s’ Alan Quartermaine Had 50-Year Career On Stage And Screen

(6/29/21) Stuart Damon, who for decades played General Hospital‘s Chief of Staff Dr. Alan Quartermaine, has died at age 84. News of his passing was first reported by ABC7 Entertainment reporter George Pennacchio and confirmed in a tweet from General Hospital EP Frank Valentini, who sent his condolences to Damon’s family before writing, “Stuart was an absolute legend of our industry and he’ll be sorely missed.”

On behalf of everyone at #GH, I want to extend my deepest condolences to Stuart Damon’s family and all who loved him. Stuart was an absolute legend of our industry and he’ll be sorely missed. @GeneralHospital — Frank Valentini (@valentinifrank) June 29, 2021

The actor’s son, Christopher Damon, told Pennacchio that the actor had been dealing with renal failure for the past few years. Of his father’s five-decade run on General Hospital, the younger Damon said: “It was his favorite place to be. He loved playing Alan and was always so appreciative of that role and that job. It was his passion.”

Damon first appeared on the ABC soap as Alan Quartermaine in 1977. He remained in the role even after the good doctor’s death in 2007, appearing occasionally as the character’s ghost.

The actor also appeared as Quartermaine on the spinoff Port Charles, which aired from 1997-2003 on ABC

After his stint as a regular on General Hospital was over, Damon landed multi-episode arcs on Days of Our Lives and As the World Turns. He also appeared on such pre-2000 hits as Diagnosis Murder, Fantasy Island, Mike Hammer and Hotel.

Damon got his start on Broadway, which led to him play the prince opposite Lesley Ann Warren in a 1965 TV movie remake of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.

In the late ’60s, he appeared on 30 episodes of NBC’s The Champions.

GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Réal Andrews Tested Positive for COVID-19

(2/24/21) (soapsindepth.com) The ongoing global coronavirus pandemic continues to affect everyone, and GENERAL HOSPITAL star Réal Andrews (Taggert) took to social media to share some bad news with his fans that he had tested positive for COVID-19. “Okay, so I tested positive the other day, which really sucks,” the actor revealed in an Instagram video. “But then it was a false positive because the next day I went I got a negative and a negative, but it still makes me have to sit out for 10 days.”

GH, like all the other daytime soaps and other entertainment productions, have strict COVID guidelines to protect their casts and crews from the dangerous virus. This winter, GH temporarily recast the role of Taggert with actor Asante Jones for a handful of episodes, but Andrews soon returned to the soap. Even with his subsequent negative test result, the positive COVID result still means that Andrews will have to take a short break from work to ensure evryone’s safety. When his castmate, Briana Nicole Henry (Jordan) caught COVID around the Thanksgiving holiday, she was temporarily recast with actress Tiffany Daniels until Henry was cleared to return to the studio. Whether or not GH is planning to recast Taggert again with Jones or another actor has not yet been announced.

“I’ll keep you up to speed,” Andrews promised. “I didn’t come in and tell you about it right away because obviously I was just devastated and frustrated, but I’m going to keep you in the loop, let you know how it goes. But that’s where we’re at right now. Taggert is sitting out on the sidelines.”

In the video, Andrews seems healthy, so hopefully, his initial COVID test result was a false positive. But please join us in wishing him well.

'Port Charles' Erin Hershey Nasty Email to Kid's Teacher ... ... We Won't Watch Inauguration!!!

(1/24/21) (tmz.com) Erin Hershey, a soap actress famous for "General Hospital," didn't want her kids tuning into Joe Biden's inauguration ... telling a teacher she'd never let them "watch a criminal."

Erin's got a daughter in elementary school in California, and after the little girl's teacher sent an email to parents Wednesday inviting kids to skip class to watch Inauguration Day, she replied with some nasty comments about the new Prez.

According to the email chain, obtained by TMZ, Erin blasted this out to the teacher and her fellow parents ... "Why watch a criminal on television? I’d never do that to my children. But thank you."

Another parent then rushed to the teacher's defense in the email chain, thanking her for considering the families who wanted to watch the historical moment and drawing Erin's ire by writing, "no matter the person taking office, we are lucky to be able to watch moments like this."

Erin quickly responded with another reply all, saying ... "I don't think we are lucky at all to watch a flat out joke."

The soap actress tells TMZ ... she stands by her emails and doesn't regret sending them. That said ... fact is, Joe Biden is NOT a criminal. And, it's her choice whether she wants her kids to see the inauguration. Too bad ... the kids may have been inspired by lots of people who were front and center, including Amanda Gorman.

Patrick Duffy gushes over new girlfriend Linda Purl

(11/16/20) Patrick Duffy is giddy with delight when discussing his new love.

The “Dallas” star — who lost his wife of 34 years, Carlyn Rosser, to cancer in 2017 — started dating actress Linda Purl four months ago.

The clearly besotted Duffy, 71, told Page Six he doesn’t feel like teenager in love but rather a “knowledgeable teen.”

“We’re not covering any ground that has not been trodden in both our lives for years and years,” he explained of his relationship with the “Happy Days” actress.

“For me, it’s not a do-over, it’s a do-again because the first one was perfect and this one is also perfect. We get a do-again, but we’re not teenagers so we kind of enter it knowing what’s expected and what to give and to respect each other’s history and individualism. It’s worked out, I can’t tell you how happy I am.”

The actor says that his Buddhist faith helped him deal with his wife’s passing and also with the brutal murders of his parents in 1986 during an armed robbery of a tavern they owned in Boulder, Montana.

“Fundamental to all Buddhist philosophy is the eternity of life,” he explained, adding that his wife introduced him to the religion.

He has chanted twice daily for 49 years, and says: “It’s impossible to separate the philosophy of Buddhism from my life. But just so people know, just because I chant ‘Namu My?h? Renge Ky?’ doesn’t mean I don’t like polishing off a bottle of wine or red meat.”

And that also includes celebrating Christmas.

“I have always been a Christmas fanatic, I was from year one. When my wife and I were first married, living in New York in the ’70s, we were so poor we would wrap our Christmas presents in the Sunday funnies because at least it was colored paper. We never gave up on the holiday.”

Duffy loves the holiday season so much he’s starring in the Lifetime Christmas movie “Once Upon a Main Street,” revealing that whenever he’s offered a Christmas movie he doesn’t even really read the script.

“I know what it is, I respect them, I respect them and their audience and when the phone rings I say, ‘Absolutely,'” he said.

Patrick Duffy and ‘Happy Days’ actress Linda Purl are dating

(11/5/20) Talk about a relationship made in 80s heaven.

Patrick Duffy, best known as good brother Bobby Ewing in “Dallas,” has fallen madly in love with “Happy Days” actress Linda Purl.

“I’m in an incredibly happy relationship,” he recently gushed to People. “I never thought for a minute this would happen again. I never thought I’d feel this way again.”

The 71-year-old actor was married for more than forty years to ballet dancer Carlyn Rosser, who died of cancer in 2017.

“My wife and I, in 48 years we were always together,” said Duffy, who shared sons Padraic, 46, and Conor, 40, with Rosser.

Purl, 65, has been married four times. Her first marriage was to Desi Arnaz, Jr., and she has one son from her third marriage.

The grandfather of four was getting accustomed to his life as a widower until quarantine unexpectedly brought him a new love.

The pair had been casual friends but lost touch over time. During the lockdown, they happened to be on a group text chain with other friends that eventually whittled down to just the two of them.

At that point, “I loaded up my car and drove 20 hours and ended up on her doorstep just to see if it was real,” said Duffy. “We haven’t been apart since.”

Thorsten Kaye Explains Why He Loves Detroit

(4/6/20) (soapsindepth.com) Anyone who knows THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL star Thorsten Kaye (Ridge) is aware that he’s a superfan of the Detroit Red Wings hockey team. How did he come to adopt that particular team as his favorite? The actor told Soaps In Depth it goes all the way back to his father, who worked for General Motors while Kaye was a kid. “I’m also a big Chevy guy, so the Motor City has always been a big part of my life.”

Kaye lived in Detroit during his 20s when he was in a classical repertory theater, and he loved the experience. “We did seven plays at the same time,” he recalls. “It was so hard, but looking back, you think, ‘That was awesome.’ I think my most fun time as an actor was the time when I was in Detroit.” For that reason, the city — and its NHL organization, which holds more Stanley Cup wins than any other U.S. team — continues to have a hold on Kaye’s heart!

And for the record, Winnie and Belle are always right. “If they’re barking, something’s going on,” York said. “A few weeks ago, they started barking, and it was right around the time my wife gets home. I looked out the front window and her car wasn’t in the driveway, but they were barking and animated, looking and wagging their tails. Literally, within 15 seconds, my wife’s car pulled into the driveway. They knew she was a couple of blocks away. It was crazy. “I just love them to death,” he added, “and I didn’t even want them!”

It’s not that York’s not a dog guy. “We’ve had four or five dogs over the years, and it’s just the hardest thing when you lose a pet,” he sighed. “And who’s the one who usually has to take them to the vet and goes through that whole process? It’s me! I’m also the one who handles the dog food: I go to the store, buy the dog food, bring it home, take it out of the package, the dogs eat it and take it out to the yard, and then I go out to the yard to pick up that food that’s been processed and take it to the garbage. It’s me from beginning to end! So after the last one passed away, I just didn’t want to do it again.”

York’s wife, Vicki, however, had other ideas. “This was about two years ago. She was out of town, but she kept looking at dogs at this rescue place,” he recounted. “She saw a couple of puppies and called me and told me I had to go look at them.

“We were only going to get one… but they brought out two,” he continued. “They were literally as big as the palm of my hand, and they told us they were sisters. I was like, ‘They have to be together.’ They were tiny puppies, and I ended up getting both of them.” Now “they do everything together and they’re crazy and fantastic. They’re just the best dogs ever!”

Jessica Morris Charged for Allegedly Almost Biting Rib Hillis' Lip Off

(9/26/19) Actress Jessica Morris -- best known for her roles on "One Life to Live" and several Lifetime movies -- has been hit with a felony charge for allegedly taking a bite out of her married boyfriend's face.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... Morris and actor Rib Hillis (ex-Jake, Port Charles) got into a fight back in May, and at some point, she went on the attack and bit Rib's lip -- almost all the way off!!!

We're told Morris turned herself in earlier this month after the L.A. County District Attorney charged her with one count of felony domestic violence with great bodily injury.

Hillis tells TMZ ... Morris got into a heated argument with him over relationship issues, which makes sense, because PLOT TWIST -- Hillis is married to Elena Grinenko, one of the pro dancers on "Dancing with the Stars."

Rib says the fight got violent when Jessica viciously bit and mangled his lip, but claims he didn't lay a hand on her during the incident. He says he went to the hospital afterward and the nurse notified the police. A report was taken and the LAPD investigated, leading to the criminal charge.

Hillis claims he had no say in the matter, but if it were up to him he "just wants everyone to heal and get on with their lives." He adds that he hasn't spoken to Morris since that night, but hopes she gets the help she needs.

Rib says he's thankful to have the love and support of his wife and family ... and for his plastic surgeon. He needed 25 stitches to fix him up.

Morris' attorney, Anthony Salerno, tells us she's declining to make a public comment on the case, but he adds ... "This situation is difficult for everyone involved, and is complicated."

Along with dating, Jessica and Rib costarred in a few movies ... including Lifetime's "The Wrong Man." Hillis says he never thought he'd be living out a Lifetime storyline with her, though.

Réal Andrews Books an 'Amazing' New Role!

(8/21/19) (abc.soapsindepth.com) Congratulations to GENERAL HOSPITAL alum Réal Andrews (ex-Taggert) on booking his first role in his "Hollywood comeback!" "Audition number one booked!" he announced on Instagram. "Boom! The comeback is happening. We are one for one, booked our first audition, a really cool feature." Unfortunately, details of exactly what his role is are not yet available. "We're not allowed to share the title," the actor admitted, "with the power of social media these days. But I can tell you this, it's a really, really amazing part."

Andrews also began getting back in shape a couple months ago, dropping the pounds and putting back on the muscle, so it's a full-on transformation for the daytime vet, who has also appeared on AS THE WORLD TURNS as Walker Daniels, ALL MY CHILDREN as Agent Trumbull, and DAYS OF OUR LIVES as Hal Michaels. Of course, GH fans remember him fondly as Detective Marcus Taggart, the role he played from 1998-2003. "So grateful to my amazing agent, Paula Benard at Embrace Real Artists, and my buddy, Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH), for his support and coaching," the actor added. "A special shout out to all of you for support and prayers. Next, on to the next audition."

And sure enough, the following day, the dedicated performer shared a photo of his new script pages from VisionFire Films perched on his workout equipment so he could study his lines while at the gym! "Working on my next two auditions," he revealed.

Naturally, we'll keep you updated as Andrews releases any further details about his upcoming projects, so you can be sure to watch him back in action! And for more on your favorite GH stars — past and present — keep reading the ABC edition of Soaps In Depth magazine.

Kelly Monaco Reveals Why She Chose to Work at GENERAL HOSPITAL

(8/2/19) (abc.soapsindepth.com) When PORT CHARLES was canceled in 2003, Kelly Monaco (who played Livvie on the GENERAL HOSPITAL spin-off before creating the role of Sam) barely had a chance to react to the news. “I got the call that the show was being cancelled and I think I cried for like five seconds,” she revealed at a fan event. “It was pretty messed up. I fortunately had a call moments later with an option to pretty much take my pick!”

Despite learning that several soaps were interested in working with her, Monaco knew exactly where she wanted to be. “I thought GH was the best show on daytime, so I called Brian Frons, who was head of ABC Daytime at the time,” she shared. “I don’t think [then-headwriters Charles Pratt Jr. and Robert Guza Jr.] really liked that too much… but lo and behold, Sam was created! So I’m very grateful!”

Carly Schroeder Opens up About Joining the Army

(7/20/19) (abc.soapsindepth.com) It was when she was 6 years old, and living in Indiana, when Kin Shriner (Scotty, GENERAL HOSPITAL) handpicked Carly Schroeder to play his and Lucy’s daughter, Serena, on the spin-off PORT CHARLES in 1997. Over the course of the next seven years, she acknowledged to Soaps In Depth, “I grew up being told what to do, being taught what it means to be a professional and how to interact with people.”

The support that she got on that set not only led her to a successful acting career, including last year’s Ouija House and Deadly Shores, but it also led her to have the courage to make a big decision: She’s joined the Army!

With a criminal-justice degree in her pocket, and having spent the last year training with Army Special Forces and police SWAT team members for an upcoming action role, Schroeder saw a new path for her future. In addition to her brother being a Marine, she said, “My father served the country as an Army Green Beret, and you know, I couldn’t let the boys have all the fun!”

To that end, she explored different branches of the military before an Army recruiter asked her to convince him that she would be an asset. Having come from a strong family that she said “functions as a team,” Schroeder appreciated the challenge. “I answered that I was raised on loyalty and am willing to put the mission first”, she shared. “I care about people and think that it’s the highest honor to defend and protect others.”

In May, Schroeder left for South Carolina, where she spent two and a half months in boot camp before entering Officer Candidate School in Georgia. To prepare herself, she took classes and did workouts at her local recruiting station, as well as circuit training, running, and hiking on her own. She also tried to gain weight! “Hollywood body type versus Army body type are very different”, she laughs. “But I am enjoying eating more, I have to say!”

If given her druthers, Schroeder would like to learn either military counterintelligence or military police work. “Also pretty high up on my [interest] list is armor and explosive ordinance disposal, which my mom’s not too excited about”, she admitted. “That’s like the bomb squad.”

While she doesn’t care where she’s eventually deployed, Schroeder’s goal is to be able to make a difference. “When I was in college, I started learning about human trafficking; I’d been unaware of how big of an issue it is domestically”, she explained. “So I would like to learn things in the military that can help me once I’m out to not only spread the message about it but also be on the team that can help fight and better assist those victims.”

Having also spent a lot of time with homeless veterans on Los Angeles’ Skid Row and hearing about the alarming suicide rates, Schroeder became determined to help. “Being an actress, I kind of get swept under the rug when I start speaking out about it”, she said. “But once I’m part of the [military] family, I can better advocate for my fellow veterans.”

Schroeder admitted that some have questioned her decision to enlist at this point in her life, but she argues that people shouldn’t put a cap on evolving and growing. “We all should stop feeling like we’re just being held in confined boxes… I think that if you want to change occupations at 28, go for it!” she maintained. “It’s not like I’m retired from Hollywood. I’m taking a [five-year] break, just like I did when I went to college.”

Rebecca Staab Previews Her Inspirational New Movie, 'Breakthrough'

(4/16/19) (abc.soapsindepth.com) Soap fans remember Rebecca Staab for her role as Elizabeth Barrington on GENERAL HOSPITAL spinoff PORT CHARLES, but since leaving daytime, she has appeared in numerous primetime television series and movies, and can now be seen on the big screen in Breakthrough. The movie, based on an incredible true story, premieres on Wednesday, April 17, in theaters across America. “It’s so good,” the actress exclaimed to Soaps In Depth. “The script made it very real. And the actors performances make it very real. And anybody watching it, you very quickly get lost. In a good way. All of a sudden you’re in the story. It’s not like you’re watching a movie. They draw you in and keep you there and you really go along on the ride. It’s really very effective.”

Breakthrough tells the true story of John Smith, a 14-year-old boy who falls through the ice and is dead for an hour before returning to life after his mother prays over him in the hospital. And although the doctors are not optimistic for any kind of recovery at all, his loved ones refuse to give up on him. “The mother, Joyce Smith, who is played by Chrissy Metz, is like, ‘No, you don’t know my son. He’s a fighter and I have faith that God is going to restore him to full health,’” Staab previewed. “And the movie kind of takes off from there.”

The daytime alum portrays Cindy Reiger, the mother of one of the other boys who fell through the ice with John. “The boys had been at my house on the lake,” Staab related. “So basically, it was on my watch that the boys fell through the ice. And then living with the guilt that not only did it happen on my watch but my son’s fine. And it’s also the stress and strain on the relationship of the two mothers because my character just couldn’t handle the guilt.”

Because the film is based on real life events, Staab tried reaching out to the real Cindy Reiger. “Getting ahold of people is really easy on social media… unless that person isn’t on social media,” she admitted with a chuckle. “I just tried really hard to get ahold of Cindy and by the time she contacted me back we had long since finished shooting.” Thankfully, Staab had been able to get in touch with Joyce Smith to discuss the reality of what they were portraying for the movie. “We talked on the phone for over two hours,” she revealed. “So I spoke to her and I got her whole perspective on the situation as well as the character that I was playing.”

Although the story of Breakthrough is very heavy and emotional, Staab confided that it was a wonderful film to shoot. “It was just the greatest set to work on,” she declared. “Because it was just so fluid. It felt so real. Everybody really knew the story and we also knew about the honor of communicating this very rare miracle.” Staab was also thrilled to be able to work with Metz, being a big fan of the actress. “I just so admire her work,” she marveled. “I loved watching her in this because she’s just so good. And to have the opportunity to work with her and to have scenes with her, I’m just so honored to be part of this timeless story that I think will really touch so many people.”

George R.R. Martin's Soapy New Adventure

(4/2/19) Andrew Miller, real-life husband of Eden Riegel (ex-Bianca, ALL MY CHILDREN, et al), is the showrunner of Hulu’s upcoming WILD CARDS series, based on the sci-fi anthology series edited by George R.R. Martin. In a big reveal that just so happens to fall on April Fool’s Day, Riegel, Thorsten Kaye (Ridge, B&B) and Greg Rikaart (ex-Leo, DAYS) appear in leaked footage from the set of the new shows, which can be viewed on Martin’s official site at http://georgerrmartin.com/notablog. Tweeted Riegel, “I think we are breaking new ground for soaps. So proud to work with you!”

Carly Schroeder Joined the Army!

(3/11/19) (abc.soapsindepth.com) Soap stars will often move on to acting careers in primetime television or film, but others sometimes leave show biz altogether to pursue another line of work. But GENERAL HOSPITAL and PORT CHARLES alum Carly Schroeder (ex-Serena) is taking a break from Hollywood to join the Army! “For 22 years, I’ve played dress up for a living,” she shared on Instagram. “As an actress, I’ve been kidnapped, gone blind, nearly eaten by lions, and murdered on more than one occasion. I tormented Lizzie McGuire’s little brother on the Disney Channel, was a dolphin trainer, the first female soccer player on an all-boys team, and Harrison Ford once rescued me during an intense home invasion.

“That’s exciting and all, but in January I decided to raise my right hand and swear into the United States Army,” Schroeder continued. “With a college degree from Cal Lutheran in Criminal Justice, an ASVAB score of 92, and qualifying PFT’s, I was accepted in to Army Officer Candidate School.”

She also admitted that there are three major reasons why she made this life decision. “College opened my eyes to global injustices,” Schroeder revealed. “But on a more tangible micro level, there is human trafficking occurring within the United States. I’ve written papers, spread awareness, and as an Army Officer, I intend to learn skills I can later apply when I’m on a team helping these victims.

“Serving my country will give my voice more validity,” she added. “I can better serve and advocate for veterans once I am a part of their community. The military is family and family always has each others’ back.”

Plus, there’s also the whole aspect of keeping it in the family! “My brother is a Marine and my Papa was a Green Beret,” Schroeder concluded. “There is no way I am going to let the boys have all the fun.”

Please join us in wishing Schroeder all the best on her new journey in life.

Jon Lindstrom Reveals How He Fell in Love With Wife Cady McClain

(3/4/19) (abc.soapsindepth.com) The real-life love story between GENERAL HOSPITAL star Jon Lindstrom (Kevin/Ryan) and ALL MY CHILDREN’s Cady McClain (Dixie) didn’t start simply because their AS THE WORLD TURNS characters, Craig and Rosanna, were paired together on the CBS sudser back in 2002. “It didn’t hurt that we were playing characters that were falling in love,” he conceded to Soaps In Depth with a smile. “But that’s not necessarily how it happened.”

What happened was actually as New York as can be: The castmates fell for each other during their daily commutes from work! “ATWT shot on a stage way out in the middle of Brooklyn, and Cady and I both lived in Manhattan,” he explained. “We would finish our scenes and be done around the same time, so we often ended up taking the hour-long train ride back to Manhattan together and got to know each other that way. We got to be very very good friends before anything else transpired.” In other words, it wasn’t love at first sight — or first love scene! “Not at all,” Lindstrom said. “I just realized I’d met this really amazing person... who was hugely intelligent and creative.”

One of the biggest thrills for Lindstrom in falling for McClain and marrying her in 2014 has been seeing her blossom as a director, producer, writer, artist and activist. The Daytime Emmy winner has earned film-festival awards across the country for projects like her short, Butterflies, and her documentary, Seeing Is Believing: Women Direct. “People have asked me if I ever expected Cady to do something like this, Lindstrom confided. “Yeah, of course! That’s who she is. If she needs to learn it, she will master it and get it done. That’s my wife. It’s pretty cool!”

And Lindstrom, an award-winning filmmaker in his own right, is still keen to work with his leading lady anytime. In fact, after McClain directed him in the series, SWITCH, last summer, she pulled out one of his old scripts. “She said, ‘I think this is going to be timely,’” recounted Lindstrom. “And when Cady says something’s going to be timely, I listen! It’s like real estate. If she says a building is a good investment, I listen. She has incredibly good instincts for things like that. So we pulled that script out, and I’m getting some very good feedback on it. It turns out she’s right! It is very timely. I expect to direct it... I just don’t know when.”

PORT CHARLES Alum Carly Schroeder Joins The Army

(2/15/19) Carly Schroeder (ex-Serena, PORT CHARLES) announced on Instagram that she has traded in her life in Hollywood to serve her country in the armed forces. “For 22 years, I’ve played dress up for a living,” Schroder posted. “As an actress I’ve been kidnapped, gone blind, nearly eaten by lions and murdered on more than one occasion. I tormented Lizzie McGuire’s little brother on the Disney Channel, was a dolphin trainer, the first female soccer player on an all-boys team, and Harrison Ford once rescued me during an intense home invasion. That’s exciting and all, but in January I decided to raise my right hand and swear into the United States Army. With a college degree from @callutheran in Criminal Justice, an ASVAB score of 92, and qualifying PFTs…. I was accepted into Army #OCS Opens a New Window. (Officer Candidate School).”

The actress was last seen in Port Charles on GH in July of 2017 when Serena returned home to visit with parents Scotty (Kin Shriner) and Lucy (Lynn Herring) after the passing of her grandpa, Lee, played by the late Peter Hansen.

But Lucy isn't your only guide. Other storied characters from the show step in to take a leg of the tour.

Constance Zimmer, Joe Manganiello & Mike Colter Star In Scripted Crime Podcast ‘The Angel Of Vine’

(11/14/18) UnREAL’s Constance Zimmer, Luke Cage’s Mike Colter and True Blood’s Joe Manganiello are starring in The Angel of Vine, a ten-part scripted true crime podcast.

The trio are narrating the series, which is a fictional account of an unsolved murder mystery told in the style of a modern true crime podcast. It was created by actor Oliver Vaquer, who starred in Jane The Virgin and Andi Mack, and former WME and UTA in-house voice director Ryan Martz.

It is the latest high-profile scripted podcast and comes after the TV launch of Julia Roberts-fronted Homecoming, which was based on a Gimlet Media podcast.

The Angel of Vine follows a journalist who uncovers the audio tapes of a 1950’s private eye, who cracked the greatest unsolved murder mystery Hollywood has ever known. The series explores the investigation in 30-minute segments voiced by actors and a supporting cast of voice-over professionals.

Misha Collins (Supernatural), Cree Summer (Voltron: Legendary Defender), Alfred Molina (Feud), Khary Payton (The Walking Dead), Alan Tudyk (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and Camilla Luddington (Grey’s Anatomy), star alongside Matthew Mercer (Critical Role), Steve Blum (Cowboy Bebop) and Nolan North (Uncharted)

The show has launched on all podcast platforms with new episodes every Wednesday. It is produced by Martz’s Vox Populi. Diageo’s Johnnie Walker Blue Label is a branded advertiser and will be featured within the storyline.

“At its core, The Angel of Vine is a story that’s entertaining for anyone and at the same time feels familiar to an avid podcast listener,” said Vaquer. “We treated the recording of Angel of Vine like live theater so that the actors could work off of each other. We would place entire scenes in front of them, let them play and watch it come to life, which shows in the final product.”

“This production created an opportunity to combine the nostalgia of classic radio dramas with the modern vehicle of podcasting,” added Martz. “We partnered with actors, companies and brands that embodied that same collision of a classic aesthetic with a modern audience to make sure that Angel of Vine provided an authentic experience to listeners.”

Jon Lindstrom Lands a Prime Role on Amazon's BOSCH!

(11/1/18) (abc.soapsindepth.com) In his career, Jon Lindstrom (Kevin/Ryan, GENERAL HOSPITAL) has been on plenty of television, but now he’s playing a role he’s very excited about. He’ll be playing the recurring role of Lance Cronyn in multiple ep0isodes of the fifth season of BOSCH! “I get to play a great character on one of my favorite shows!” the actor announced on Instagram.

Lindstrom had been teasing fans on social media for a couple weeks that he’d landed a new role but had kept details close to the vest until he could finally share the news. Amazon renewed BOSCH for a fifth season even before the fourth premiered, but there is still no premiere date for the series’ fifth season beyond just 2019.

BOSCH stars Titus Welliver as Los Angeles Police detective Harry Bosch, and is based on characters and storylines taken from novels by author Michael Connelly. In the books, Lindstrom’s character of Lance Cronyn is a former district attorney who has moved into private practice. Whether or not the TV series will follow the same storyline as the books, you’ll just have to stay tuned to find out!

We’ll let you know when the fifth season of BOSCH is going to premiere so you can check out Lindstrom in his newest role.

GENERAL HOSPITAL Stars Remember the Late Susan Brown

(10/25/18) (abc.soapsindepth.com) Susan Brown hasn’t been seen in Port Charles since 2004, but in the wake of her August 31 passing, it’s clear that the beauty who brought Gail Baldwin to life is still cherished by her GENERAL HOSPITAL family. In fact, Kin Shriner (Scott), Leslie Charleson (Monica) and Jacklyn Zeman (Bobbie) can still recall their first experiences with the late actress. “In 1977, Gail came to Greenwich Village to get young Scotty, because she wanted to reunite him with Lee,” Shriner told Soaps In Depth. So Susan was the first person I worked with on GH, and it was certainly the best way to come onto a soap. She kind of shepherded me right through the whole thing.”

Brown had joined GH earlier that year — armed with 20 years of TV experience — and along with the late Peter Hansen’s Lee, the Baldwins would become an important Port Charles family in the ’80s. Gail was also Monica’s foster mom, which meant Brown got to welcome Charleson to the fold when she assumed her role from Patsy Rahn… during a strike… on the morning Elvis died! “It was a nightmare of a day, Charleson recalled. “Nobody really liked me, and it was not a comfortable situation, but Susan was kind and gracious — as she always was! — and she got me through it. “I just adored her,” she continues. “And those scenes we had when Monica slept with Gail’s husband were some of the most fun I’ve ever had actingwise. Working with someone who challenges you only makes you better — and that’s what she did.”

While Zeman remembers being awed by Brown’s legendary beauty, it was the voice that got her. “She had a very calming, low, embracing voice that made you feel good,” she reflected. “She was one of those people who just made you feel warm and fuzzy.” It turns out, much of Gail’s sensibility came from Brown. “Susan brought her class and style right to the show,” Shriner shared. “She played a psychiatrist, and she certainly knew how to talk to people and was very good with them. She was understanding and loved laughing. She’d come out of New York and soaps and commercials, so she had this great, wry humor.”

But Brown’s laughs were never at any one else’s expense. “You couldn’t get any dirt out of her,” Charleson said. “She was fiercely loyal. She was generous. She always had a smile and a nice thing to say. She had impeccable taste. And everything she wore never wrinkled. I mean that!” Chimed in Zeman: “You can’t always count on people who are such free spirits to give you the right line or cue, but they’re a lot of fun on set, so they get away with it. But Susan always hit her mark, always knew her line, always looked beautiful. She was sheer perfection.”

During GH’s heyday, Brown’s dressing room was a hub of activity. “Susan always had the door open,” Shriner recalled. “There were a lot of laughs! And I looked forward to any time I had scenes with her and Peter. I knew we were going to have a hell of a lunch. Susan and Peter loved to eat!” While Gail was written off in ’85, Brown recurred in the ’90s and even brought her character to the spin-off PORT CHARLES before appearing on GH one last time in 2004. But whether she was on the show or not, her GH family lunches continued. “On Sundays, there were usually four or five of us going to lunch, and Susan was always dolled up — even when we picked her up to go to DuPar’s,” Shriner chuckled before noting that most of their favorite eateries, including that diner, have since closed.

“Everything in L.A. eventually disappears and now, Susan’s disappeared,” he concluded wistfully. “She and Peter are up there in soap heaven, doing some Lee/Gail scenes without me... but she’ll be locked in my memory for the rest of my life.”

Kelly Monaco Opens up About Suffering From Panic Attacks and Anxiety

(12/1/17) (abc.soapsindepth.com) Actors will often draw from their own experiences to create their performances, but GENERAL HOSPITAL star Kelly Monaco had to tap into some parts of herself that she would rather keep under wraps when she portrayed Sam’s breakdown as she experienced hallucinations and tried to kill Sonny! “I suffer from panic attacks and anxiety, and have for many years,” she revealed.

Monaco confessed that she struggles with the condition “almost daily” so it wasn’t hard for her to access those emotions to create her powerful performances on the soap. But the experience was difficult, to say the least! “Having to go back to the place where my last debilitating anxiety attack was [for GH] was traumatic,” she admitted. “It takes a bit to get over because you work yourself up so much.”

Thankfully, Sam pulled through that awful period in her life and was cured of the disease that was ravaging her brain and caused her to act so erratically. And Monaco is more than ready to play the stronger side of Sam that has made the character a Port Charles fan favorite. “Sam’s been broken down in the past,” she mused. “This might be a layer to help build her back up [to] the sassy Sam we all used to know and love — [the one] who had a voice!”

Of course, with two men in her life claiming to be her husband, Jason Morgan, Sam’s life doesn’t look like it’s going to be getting easier anytime soon. But hopefully having gone through hell and come out the other side stronger gives Sam the power to face whatever life (i.e. the GH writers and producers) throw at her!

Kelly Monaco Returns to DANCING WITH THE STARS!

(10/31/17) Sam has a lot to deal with on GENERAL HOSPITAL, what with now having two Jason Morgans to deal with, but actress Kelly Monaco has found the time to do a little moonlighting back at DANCING WITH THE STARS! She will be returning to the ABC reality competition series for the third time, this time joining one of the season 25 couples for “Trio Night” on Monday, Nov. 6! “So excited to share the dance floor with my bestie Cheryl Burke and the legendary Terrell Owens next week on DWTS,” Monaco tweeted.

The first time Monaco competed on DANCING WITH THE STARS, it was the show’s very first season, and although she got off to a rocky start, she and professional partner Alec Mazo ultimately took home the mirrorball trophy as the winners! The actress returned again in 2012 for the 15th season, which was a special All-Stars competition, but unfortunately, she and Valentin Chmerkovskiy only placed third. Although this did lead to Chmerkovskiy making a guest appearance on GH in 2012 as a boxer in Sonny's gym.

Monaco may not be competing for a prize, but she’s definitely going to have to pull out all the stops to help NFL star Terrell Owens stay in the competition! In addition to the season one champion, some other winning alums will be returning to the show for the special episode. Season 24 winner Rashad Jennings will be dancing with Drew Scott and Emma Slater, season 17’s Corbin Bleu joins Jordan Fisher and Lindsay Arnold, season 23’s Laurie Hernandez dances with Victoria Arlen and Val Chmerkovskiy, season 19’s Alfonso Ribero hits the floor with Frankie Muniz and Witney Carson, and season 6 champion Kristi Yamaguchi returns to perform alongside Lindsey Stirling and Mark Ballas.

So make sure to set your DVR’s for ABC at 8 p.m. ET on Monday, Nov. 6, to see Monaco back on the dance floor again!

A TV soap opera actress-turned-avocado grower is running for congress in Coachella Valley

(10/11/17) (desertsun.com) Kimberlin Brown Pelzer, a soap opera actress-turned-avocado grower, announced on Tuesday her candidacy for Coachella Valley’s congressional seat, becoming one of potentially two Republicans looking to parlay their TV presence into a political career.

Best known for playing the villainous Sheila Carter on “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful,” Brown Pelzer also owns an interior design company and, with her husband, Gary, a sports fishing and marina rental business in San Diego, among others.

"The reason I'm running for office is because for the first time in our country we’re not leaving behind something better for the next generation," she said.

Brown Pelzer recently moved to Palm Springs, but told The Desert Sun that she's been attending charity events in the desert for more than two decades and that her financial services company has been operating ATMs here for seven years.

She closed out the second day of the Republican National Convention in 2016, scoring early points with local GOP organizers for her backing of Donald Trump and her complaints about taxes and small business regulations. She also criticized "suspect trade deals" that create foreign competition at home and can leave American workers unemployed.

The immediate reaction from Republican activists was positive.

“I know this is the person who’s going to win,” Joy Miedecke, chair of the East Valley Republican Women Federated, said on Tuesday. (Video)

The 36th Congressional district, which extends from Hemet to Blythe and includes all of the Coachella Valley, leans Democrat. For months, Republicans have been searching for a viable candidate — someone with name-recognition who can quickly raise money and sway independents in a region that voted overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton in the last presidential contest.

Brown Pelzer said she's "the kind of person who will work with both parties" and doesn't see her prime-time support for Trump in the last election as an obstacle. "The fact that President Trump did not spend a lot of time in California was a business decision," she said. "You put your money where it brings you the most return."

Incumbent Raul Ruiz, a former emergency room physician and the son of farmworkers, easily won re-election in November 2016 and so he’s currently sitting on a war chest worth $1.6 million.

Republican Dan Ball, a former television news anchor, has also been in talks with consultants about a possible congressional run, but has yet to say for certain whether he, too, is going to challenge Ruiz. He said he planned to make an announcement next week.

The election is 13 months away.

Anne Jeffreys Dies: ‘General Hospital’, ‘Topper’ Actress Was 94

(9/29/17) Anne Jeffreys, an actress whose career spanned the Nelson Eddy and Janette MacDonald era through a decades-long run into the 2000s as General Hospital‘s snobbiest socialite, has died. She was 94.

“God bless the beautiful + talented Anne Jeffreys,” tweeted General Hospital actress Jacklyn Zeman. “We will always remember you with love + appreciation.”

Jeffreys’ death was first reported last night by George Pennacchio of Los Angeles’ KABC. Additional details were not immediately available.

In addition to General Hospital, Jeffreys is probably best known to TV audiences for her co-starring role, with husband Robert Sterling, in Topper, CBS’ 1953-55 ghostly romantic comedy. She appeared in numerous Republic Studios and R.K.O pictures in the 1940s, including Flying Tigers with John Wayne, Step Lively with Frank Sinatra. She played Tess Trueheart in 1945’s Dick Tracy.

The actress also had a prolific stage and musical career, singing Tosca at the Brooklyln Opera House, My Romance on Broadway, and Kiss Me Kate in Los Angeles and New York, all in the ’40s. It was during her New York run of Kate that she met and married fellow Broadway actor Sterling (Jeffreys’ first, brief marriage had been annulled). The couple were married until Sterling’s death in 2006. They had three sons.

“My life has been a full, happy and active one,” Jeffreys once said, as quoted on her official website, “and I hope I’ll always be as busy as a blind dog in a meat shop. I thrive on activity.”

Other TV credits included Bonanza, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Falcon Crest, L.A. Law, Baywatch, Battlestar Galactica, Port Charles and, in her final appearance, HBO’s Getting On. She first played her General Hospital character, the rich and snooty Amanda Barrington, in 1984, and continued in prominent storylines through the 1990s. Her final appearance on the show was in 2004, and in 2013 the character’s off-screen death was revealed.

Lindstrom shared a photo of his place at the table read for the fourth episode of season nine of the CBS series entitled “Mountebank” where he will be playing the character of Phillip Nelson. The new season will be premiering on Sunday, Oct. 1, but there is no air date scheduled yet for episode four.

LIndstrom also shared a pic from inside his trailer on the show’s set taking a selfie in the mirror while eating some eggs and toast. “Your own trailer and they bring you breakfast,” he wrote. “I love this biz.” He also shared some behind the scenes video of him filming the episode from behind the wheel of a car while a camera perches just outside the window as he drives down the road. “You ever feel like somebody’s watching you?” he teased. (You’ll note that he’s not actually driving the car, so don’t worry!)

NCIS: LA stars LL Cool J and Chris O’Donnell but so far, Lindstrom has only shared a selfie with fellow guest star Costas Mandylor. “Costas thinking he can be taller than me,” he joked. “Awesome guy, amazing actor.” Back in 2013, Mandylor played the character of Tomas Mendez in a couple episodes of parent series NCIS, but at this time it’s unclear if he’s reprising that role or playing an entirely new one.

You can look forward to Lindstrom returning to Port Charles very soon, and as soon as we have more details on when his episode of NCIS: LA is slated to air, we’ll be sure to let you know so you can tune in!

GENERAL HOSPITAL's Lee Baldwin — A Tribute

(7/11/17) (abc.soapsindepth.com) To honor the late Peter Hansen, GENERAL HOSPITAL is planning a special tribute to his character, Lee Baldwin, for the episode airing Friday, July 14. The character first appeared when the soap debuted in 1963, and was played by Ross Elliott. Hansen assumed the role in 1965 and played it until 2004 on both GH and its sister soap PORT CHARLES.

A recovering alcoholic, Lee was an attorney who worked as an addiction counselor at General Hospital where he romanced nurse Jessie Brewer. When she discovered she was pregnant with Phil’s baby after he’d left Port Charles, Lee offered to marry her so her child could have a father. Phil learned the truth and returned, but Jessie didn’t want to leave Lee, fearing he’d start drinking again. However, Jessie went into labor before her divorce could be finalized, and Lee let Jessie have her family with Phil. Sadly, their baby died soon after it was born.

Lee soon became smitten with nurse Meg Bentley, who was a widow with a young son, Scotty, and teenage stepdaughter, Brooke. When Meg’s fiancé left her for her stepdaughter, Lee was there to comfort her and romance bloomed. They eventually married and Lee legally adopted Scotty. Their marriage hit a rough patch when Meg suspected Lee of having an affair with her friend, Iris, but they reconciled after Lee donated his kidney to save Scotty’s life.

Sadly, the return of her stepdaughter, Brooke, sent Meg on the path to a nervous breakdown and Lee was forced to hospitalize his wife. She was eventually released but continued to be jealous of Lee’s friendships with other women and ultimately died of a stroke during an argument with him.

Lee next married Caroline Chandler and moved to New York with her and her son so he could receive medical treatment. But he returned to Port Charles a few years later after she died in an accident. He found comfort with Dr. Gail Adamson, who urged Scotty to get in touch with his father who missed him desperately. So Lee was there to help Scotty avoid following in his father's footsteps when he began drinking after being dumped by Laura.

Finding himself caught up in the Scotty/Laura/Luke triangle, Lee naturally supported his son and even went so far as to burn the divorce papers so Laura couldn’t leave Scott to marry Luke. But he eventually confessed and made up with Laura, attending her and Luke’s wedding and mourning when she was later presumed dead.

Lee ran for mayor in 1983, and against Luke Spencer, of all people! Running his father’s campaign, Scotty tried to ruin Luke’s reputation, but when Lee found out, he fired his son. Luke won the election, but when Laura returned, he quit, leaving Lee with the job. After resigning in 1985, Lee left town with Gail in 1986.

The Baldwins returned to Port Charles in 1992 and were there when Scotty married Dominique. They were also surprised to learn they were grandparents because Scotty had a daughter, Karen. After Scotty left town for a time, Lee and Gail were thrilled when he came home with his daughter, Serena. Lee also defended Dr. Julie Devlin, who was the General Homicide serial killer, and helped get her the psychiatric help she needed.

In 1999, Lee gave his loved ones a fright when he suffered a pulmonary embolism. Scott felt tortured when he learned that the villainous DV Bordisso was his biological father, but Lee reminded him that no matter what biology said, they were father and son. Lee and Gail mourned Karen’s death when she was hit by a car, and later paid their respects at Lila Quartermaine’s funeral, which was the last time they were seen on screen.

Hansen’s passing will be reflected on-screen with the death of Lee Baldwin, and the special episode airing July 14 will also see Carly Schroeder returning to reprise her role of Serena. It will be a show no longtime GH fan will want to miss!

Carly Scheoeder Reprising Serena On GH

(7/10/17) Carly Schroeder will return to Port Charles this week as Serena, Scott and Lucy’s daughter, who she played on the GH spin-off PORT CHARLES from 1997-2003, in conjunction with the show’s tribute to Scott’s father, Lee. (Lee’s portrayer, Peter Hansen, passed away earlier this year.) “I couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful return,” Schroeder tells Digest. “Kin [Shriner, Scott] and I still have the same mannerisms! He is like my second father.” Lynn Herring (Lucy) says, “It was just amazing to have Carly back with us. It’s something Kin and I had wanted for a long time and I know the fans did, too. I’m excited for them to see it!”

Brian Presley Joins The Great Race

(5/12/17) Treat Williams, Henry Thomas, Bruce Davison, James Russo, Brad Leland, Brea Bea and Brian Presley just finished The Great Race, which marks Presley’s feature directorial debut. The film is based on a true story of the teams’ heroic mushers in Alaska in 1925 who run through a blizzard against time to save the snowed-in people of Nome during a diphtheria outbreak. Presley, who was a producer and star of the 2011 Kurt Russell-Taraji P. Henson film Touchback, also scripted The Great Race and produced it under the banner of his newly formed shingle Rebel Road Entertainment. Mark David and Will Wallace also produced. In the incident known as the Great Race of Mercy, Nome’s lone physician feared that there was an epidemic when the local children came down with diphtheria. The city’s local hospital was out of the antitoxin, and the nearest serum was 700 miles away, so 20 mushers led by Leonhard Seppala (Presley) braved the treacherous weather to save the children. The famous dog Balto (and his musher Gunnar Kaasen) were part of that mission. Presley is repped by Jay Cohen.

GENERAL HOSPITAL's Lucy Coe — Relive Her Crazy Life Story!

(3/28/17) (abc.soapsindepth.com) The character of Lucy Coe has been a fan favorite ever since the first appeared on GENERAL HOSPITAL back in 1986!. Portrayer Lynn Herring was only hired for a short-term gig, but the character became so popular she stuck around and was even used to help launch the GH spinoff PORT CHARLES in 1997!

Lucy was originally a mousy librarian who was involved with Kevin O’Connor and his alibi in a murder case. Breaking out of her shell, she later had an affair with Bobbie’s husband Jake, married Tony Jones, and then tied the knot with Alan Quartermaine wearing a scandalous red dress at their wedding ceremony!

While married to Alan, Lucy had an affair with Scotty, and became pregnant. After miscarrying his child, she ended up with Scotty, but later left town. When she returned, Lucy found that Scotty had fallen in love with Dominique, who had fatal brain cancer. Having turned over a new leaf, Lucy agreed to be their surrogate and gave birth to Serena in a cabin during a blizzard.

After Scotty was forced to flee town by the mob, Lucy fell in with Damian Smith and returned to her scheming ways, betting him he couldn’t seduce Bobbie away from Tony. But during this time, Lucy met Kevin, who helped her return to the kinder, gentler woman Dominique had believed in.

Things then took a stranger turn for a while as Lucy and Kevin discovered that his daughter, Livvie, was being seduced by a vampire named Caleb. After vanquishing the evil bloodsucker, Kevin threw a surprise wedding and Lucy finally married her "Doc." With their lives now full of magic and mystery, the appearance of another creature of the night, Stephen Clay, led Lucy to discover she was actually a vampire slayer!

Lucy was also instrumental in creating the annual Nurses Ball for General Hospital to raise funds for AIDS research, although after a while, they stopped holding the event. But in 2012, nurses Sabrina and Felix tracked down Lucy to help revive the ball. Lucy’s return to Port Charles had a bit of a hiccup when she thought John McBain was the vampire Caleb and Sam McCall was Livvie. It was later revealed that musician Stephen Clay was insane, and believed himself to be a vampire named Caleb.

With Kevin spending so much time out of town with patients, Lucy distracted herself by trying to relaunch Deception Cosmetics with Laura, but it never got off the ground. While helping Scott run for District Attorney, they grew closer and slept together. Although Lucy wanted to remain married to Kevin, she couldn’t deny her feelings for Scott and her marriage came to an end. Sadly, Lucy was shocked to discover Scott was also sleeping with Bobbie and devastated when the cad chose to be with the redhead instead!

More recently, Lucy found herself wrapped up in Morgan’s death after catching Ava dumping the young man’s medication in the trash. And while Lucy isn’t above playing dirty every now and then, she will eventually do the right thing. That, you can be sure of!

Lynn Herring Reveals Her Family's Beautiful Holiday Tradition!

(12/24/16) Lynn Herring (Lucy, GENERAL HOSPITAL) has a unique family tradition involving special Christmas tree decorations that began when she was a little girl, and that she continues for her own children to this day!

“My mom started it because we are air force brats, myself and my two sisters,” the actress tells Soaps In Depth. “We lived in 23 places growing up, so every place we lived, she would get an ornament.

“For Puerto Rico, we got cool straw hat ornaments,” Herring continues. “From Nebraska, we had scarecrow ornaments. She would get ones that represented where we lived and write our name on it. For the year I was born, I have one for my dad from Enid, Oklahoma. She started the tradition of giving something important for everywhere we lived.”

It is also a tradition that she has kept alive for her own family that includes husband Wayne Northrop (ex-Roman, DAYS OF OUR LIVES and their two sons, Hank, 25, and Grady, 23.

“So with the boys, Wayne and I did the same thing. Everybody gets an ornament for something they took up that year,” Herring reveals. “So they’d better start something if they don’t want to have a dud ornament!

“Last year, I drove the Red Cross truck, so I have a little Red Cross truck from last year,” she confides. “Wayne is kind of stuck with cowboys and cows. It’s pretty western.”

However, while this is a beautiful tradition that celebrates the various accomplishments of the entire family over time, there is just one little problem: “The tree has to be so big to fit all these ornaments on it that you can’t even see the fireplace sometimes,” Herring laughs. “We’ve gotten a bit out of control!”

Jon Lindstrom Reads Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

(9/30/16) (Get the audiobook here) Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, read by Jon Lindstrom.

Narrated by Jon Lindstrom (Kevin, GH) Excellent characterization and well-crafted tension do much to redeem the outlandish plot of this SF thriller from Crouch (the Wayward Pines trilogy). Jason Dessen, a quantum physicist, once had a brilliant research career ahead of him. But after a girlfriend’s unexpected pregnancy and the birth of a son, this future was derailed. Now Jason is a professor at a small Chicago college, content with his warm and loving family life until he’s abducted into a world in which his quantum many-worlds theory has become a fully realized technology for inter-dimensional transfer. In this world, Jason didn’t marry his girlfriend and never had a son. Jason is determined to get back to his family and his own world, but nefarious powers in the alternate reality conspire to stop him from revealing the criminal lengths they have gone to create the world-hopping technology. Crouch makes little attempt to justify the underlying science fiction MacGuffin, but a rousing and heartfelt ending will leave readers cheering. Agent: David Hale Smith, Inkwell Management.

Another D-list day at the Republican National Convention

Another former soap star, Kimberlin Brown, brought up the rear Tuesday at the Republican National Convention, her late-night limelight delayed by a long delegate count in the Donald Trump nominating process.

Brown, a California avocado farmer and mom of two, played the villainous Sheila Carter on both "The Young and the Restless" and "The Bold and the Beautiful" from 1990 until 2006. Antonio Sabato Jr., another "Bold" alum, spoke on the convention's opening day Monday.

Cameras panned to empty seats as Brown spoke, though plenty of delegates remained. She angrily noted some vitriol she had received on social media for agreeing to speak for Trump, but had some vitriol of her own for Hillary Clinton, whom she accused of not doing enough to help businesswomen.

Of the avocado-growing business, a steely-eyed Brown said, "I've seen firsthand our domestic market flooded with imports that harmed local farmers and even drove some out of business."

She added, "We need someone who knows how to build things, who knows how to create jobs and who knows how to negotiate."

Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White called Trump a loyal friend who always took a keen interest in White's career.

"I've been in the fight business my whole life. I know fighters. Ladies and gentleman, Donald Trump is a fighter and I know he will fight for this country," White said.

According to the Republicans, Trump hosted the once-controversial mixed martial arts competitions at his Trump Taj Mahal when other venues refused.

Oh, and also on the night's program: A low-ranked professional golfer, Natalie Gulbis. She was a Season 2 contestant on "The Celebrity Apprentice" whom Trump fired eight episodes in. Apparently she's OK with that. She called Trump "generous" and "inspiring."

Gulbis, who once had her own reality show on the Golf Channel, borrowed a line from Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg in praising Trump as the guy who urged her to be fearless and to "lean in" when faced with age (she's 33) and gender challenges as a businesswoman.

Kimberlin Brown: What We Know About the RNC’s Guest Actress

(variety.com) Soap opera actress Kimberlin Brown will take center stage at the Republican National Convention Tuesday night, appearing as the guest speaker for the night’s primetime slot. She will even be introduced by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s onetime opponent Ben Carson.

But, who is Brown? Variety explains:

Brown played Sheila Carter first on “The Young and The Restless” and then on “The Bold and The Beautiful.” Carter was a “devious” character who “terrorized” the fictional Genoa City and was eventually killed off by her arch nemesis in the 1990s.

She then appeared on “Port Charles” and “One Life to Live,” followed by a short-term role on “All My Children.”

She currently hosts “Dramatic Designs” on The Design Network, where she walks viewers through her many projects, from conception to the final product.

Brown is a “small business owner,” according to a GOP convention statement.

Brown was born in Hayward, California.

She has been married to Gary Pelzer since May 1991. They have two children, Alexes Marie and Nicholas.

She has an avocado farm.

From the look of her Instagram post, she seems to be pretty excited about tonight’s speech.

Lynn Herring Celebrates 30 Years on GENERAL HOSPITAL!

When Lynn Herring realized her “short” stint as GENERAL HOSPITAL’s dowdy librarian Lucy was turning into something bigger, she dropped out of Loyola’s Masters in Psychology program and threw herself into life in Port Charles.

Thirty years, a makeover and many tears and laughs later, Lucy’s still one of our favorite daytime divas! In the latest ABC issue of Soaps In Depth, Herring looks back at Lucy’s run and admits, “When I see all these pictures, I remember the feelings I had about the person I worked with, but I don’t have instant recall on every storyline. With 52 weeks a year and decades of story, you forget!”

We jog her memory — and yours — with a walk down Memory Lane in the new ABC issue of Soap In Depth, on sale now!

Jon Lindstrom Was Paid Pennies for an Acting Job

(Pic) Jon Lindstrom (Kevin, GENERAL HOSPITAL) is a talented actor who has appeared in daytime, primetime and the silver screen. But he suffers from the same problem as all performers — skimpy residual checks!

“Not the smallest I’ve seen,” Lindstrom wrote on Instagram, “but it’s the smallest I’ve gotten. Beats that one for $6.66 back in the day.”

While that check may look like a complete waste of time, paper, ink, and postage, it does allow Lindstrom to put his two cents in on any subject!

Rebecca Staab Joins Alison Sweeney In New Hallmark Project

Rebecca Staab (ex-Elizabeth, PORT CHARLES, et al) will play Alison Sweeney’s (ex-Sami, DAYS) mother in a new movie for the Hallmark Channel, BLUEBERRIES. “Crack the champagne! Val-En-Tina is written by Jaquita Ta’le and Carlton Byrd and directed by Araeia Robinson.

“One of my favorite projects/characters ever,” Lindstrom tweeted. “Enjoy!”

“Congratulations to the cast and crew,” Easton posted to Facebook.

Marisa Ramirez Welcomes Daughter Violet Rae

(Photo) Marisa Ramirez is a mom!

The actress, 38, welcomed her first child, a daughter, on Sunday, May 29, she announced Monday on Twitter.

“She’s here!! Little Miss Violet Rae born on Sunday May29th!! She’s so happy and healthy and we are so in love!!!” the Blue Bloods star tweeted, along with a photo of her sleeping newborn.

A rep for Ramirez, who has played NYPD Detective Maria Baez on the hit show since its third season in 2013, confirmed her pregnancy news exclusively to PEOPLE in January.

“It gives me such a warm and fuzzy feeling knowing that my Blue Bloods family is there to help me transition into this new chapter of my life,” Ramirez said at the time, adding that costar Donnie Wahlberg “did a little happy” dance when her learned of her exciting news.

And while Ramirez didn’t find out she was having a girl at first, she couldn’t hold off for too long. By the time of her floral-heavy April baby shower in New York City — with guests including costars Bridget Moynahan and Abigail Hawk — the cat was already out of the bag.

“This was a complete surprise,” Ramirez told PEOPLE earlier this year about her pregnancy. “Some mornings I wake up and forget I’m pregnant! It just seems like it was meant to be — a happy surprise.”

Martha Byrne Reunites With AS THE WORLD TURNS Castmates

(Pic1, Pic2) Martha Byrne (Lily) reunited with some old AS THE WORLD TURNS castmates during her trip to Los Angeles!

“Fun in LA!” she wrote with a photo of herself with friends Paul Leyden (Simon), Maura West (Carly; now Ava, GENERAL HOSPITAL) and Kin Shriner (Keith; Scotty, GH).

Byrne has kept mum about exactly why she's traveled to Hollywood, but ATWT fans were delighted to see she’s also taking the time to catch up with old friends! Even though Shriner played a villain on the much-missed CBS soap, you can almost imagine that Lily was hanging out with Carly and Simon in Oakdale!

Kin Shriner Shares Classic Photo With Former Castmate, John Stamos!

(Pic) Fans missing Blackie at this year’s GENERAL HOSPITAL Nurses Ball can at least enjoy an amazing flashback photo that Kin Shriner (Scotty) posted with the musician’s portrayer!

“John Stamos and I on Sunday motorcycle ride!” Shriner wrote. “Circa 1990. Now I ride Vespa!”

This photo would’ve been taken at the height of Stamos’ fame on the classic FULL HOUSE, and it’s so fun to see the two buddies hanging out and having a great time!

John J. York Stars in New Movie, 'The Last Heist'

(Trailer) It’s been a while since Mac worked for the Port Charles Police Department on GENERAL HOSPITAL, but portrayer John J. York is back in action in the upcoming thriller The Last Heist, hitting theaters, VOD and iTunes on Friday, June 17!

The film stars Henry Rollins as a man who is visiting his safety deposit box when the bank is taken over by armed robbers. But the situation turns even deadlier when it is revealed that Rollins’ character is a killer who starts taking people out one by one! York plays Sinclair, who from the trailer, seems to be in charge of the assault team trying to bring the dangerous criminals to justice.

“Great time making this movie!” York tweeted. “Can’t wait to see it!”

The film also features Mykel Shannon Jenkins, who played Detective Charlie Baker on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL — although his character in this film is on the other side of the law!

John J. York Shares Adorable Baby Picture

(Photo) Apparently, GENERAL HOSPITAL star John J. York (Mac) was going through some old photo albums over the weekend, and decided to share an old baby picture of himself with fans on Twitter!

“As I look at this photo,” he wrote, “doesn’t my head look a lot bigger than my body? What’s up with that?”

We think he was an adorable little tyke, and is a handsome man today!

Lynn Herring Shares Cute Video Thanking Fans for Bringing Her Back to GENERAL HOSPITAL

Ellsworth Has Something To Sing About!

Next month, Kiko Ellsworth (ex-Stan, GENERAL HOSPITAL, Jamal, PORT CHARLES) is releasing The Great Awakening, his very first music CD, on iTunes. We knew that Ellsworth is an actor and self-defense instructor, but we didn't know that he could sing. As it turns out, neither did he! Stranger yet, he discovered it while doing yoga! "In that class, you really work on breathing, meditation, and chanting... with all those things happening, my voice changed and started coming correctly from my diaphragm instead of my throat," he explains. "We chanted some songs, and it was such an amazing, healing experience."

Having previously learned to rap for his role in the movie I Am, Ellsworth felt compelled to write and record something inspirational. "I'm rapping, singing, chanting... it's all mixed together in a very hip, edgy, but also spiritual way," he previews. What the performer wants fans to know is that he's using the CD to raise funds for Safe Passage and Operation Skid Row, charities that raise awareness for domestic violence and homelessness, respectively. For more about the music project, (which will be launched via a hot party on Saturday, January 26) or to donate to the cause, check out Ellsworth's intriguing video.
