POWER OF A PLANT-BASED DIET: Sessions will be from 1 to 2 p.m. June 27 at Cancer Services Southeast, 3420 E. Paulding Road, Fort Wayne, and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 27 at Cancer Services Healing Arts Center, 6316 Mutual Drive, Fort Wayne. Virtual attendance also available. Eating predominantly plant-based foods could improve your overall health and decrease risk and help combat cancer. Registered dietitian Abigail Creigh with the Noble County Purdue Extension Office will explain the pros and cons, provides a food demonstration with samples, and speak to the impact this approach to eating has on cancer. GENEALOGY WEBSITES: The Huntington County Genealogical Society will host a live and virtual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Keefer Center of the Huntington City-Township Public Library, 255 W. Park Drive, Huntington. The topic will be “Important Websites” presented by Sarah Kirby, the genealogy and local history archives librarian in the Keefer Center. Online access will be through Zoom. HOOSIER RIVERWATCH: The St. Joseph River Watershed Initiative is hosting another Hoosier Riverwatch water quality monitoring training from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Eckhart Park, 1500 S, Cedar St., Auburn, for individuals interested in learning more about water quality in local streams. Attendees should be prepared to get their feet wet. Participants will receive a printed training manual, Hoosier Riverwatch certification, and access to the Hoosier Riverwatch online database to enter water quality data you collect to be a part of the citizen science community monitoring Indiana’s water resources. SENIOR LIVING OPTIONS: Adams Woodcrest will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 19 at 1300 Mercer Ave., Decatur. PATRIOTIC POP CONCERT SERIES: The Fort Wayne Philharmonic will perform at 7 p.m. June 29 at the Muensterberg Plaza and Clock Tower in Berne. The concert, sponsored by Adams Health, will be free. The 3-Stage BBQ food truck and the Sisters and Misters ice truck will also be on-site to sell refreshments. Bring your own lawn chairs. In the event of rain, the concert will be moved indoors to South Adams High School, 1000 Parkway St., Berne.
CHAUTAUQUA WAWASEE: A Benjamin Franklin reenactor will be featured in the annual Patriotic Speaker Series from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. June 30 at the Wawasee High School auditorium. Admission is free for this family-friendly event. Franklin, a scientist and Revolutionary-era statesman, will answer questions from the audience.
EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION: EAA Chapter 2 gathering will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 13. This annual fly-in/drive-in sandwich lunch attracts various aircraft as well as classic and collectible cars. Sandwich, either sloppy joe or chicken, with chips, dessert, and drink are served by our Chapter 2 members in the historic Hangar 2 on the southeast corner of Smith Field Airport, 426 W. Ludwig Road, Fort Wayne. Admission is free. Lunch donations will be accepted for the Youth Aviation Training Scholarship Fund. JA WINE & BEER FESTIVAL: Tickets are on sale for the annual event, scheduled for July 26 at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne. Premium admission, $60, allows entry at 5 p.m., followed by general admission tickets, $40, allowing admission at 6 p.m. VIP tickets, for $100, also allow 5 p.m. admission and other benefits including exclusive tastings. TEE OFF FOR TIGERS: Luke Funk Wealth Management will host its fourth annual golf fundraiser June 21 at Eel River Golf Course to support Black Pine Animal Sanctuary. Funds raised at the event are used to help offset the cost of food, veterinary care, habitat maintenance and enrichment. The carnivores living at the sanctuary consume 1,300 pounds of meat a week, and the rest of the residents enjoy more than 450 pounds of produce each week. BENEFIT RIDE: Harley-Davidson of Fort Wayne is hosting a June 15 event to Dare to Dream Youth Ranch. Cost is $20 per rider and $10 per passenger, which includes a T-shirt while supplies last. APPLESEED QUILTERS GUILD: The monthly Guild meeting is 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Mizpah Shrine Center on Memorial Way. The speaker will be from The Mizpah Shrine, who will present an overview of their mission and how the Appleseed Quilters Guild can help by providing baby quilts.
